The Plum Guide is home to some of the best private home rentals in the world. They pride themselves on curated luxury properties in outstanding locations. At the time of writing, they had over 40,000 properties worldwide.  Even if you can’t afford to stay in them, a little daydreaming never hurt anybody.

Airbnb is everywhere these days and it has become our go-to. We like it because we want something unique that Hotels just can’t replicate but gone are the days when Airbnb was a cheaper option. That being said it doesn’t hurt to negotiate and we have had success negotiating better deals on the site by direct messaging.

While my bunk bed days are over, yours shouldn’t be. Between the ages of 19-30 these were my home and the people that I met and the laughs that were shared will last a lifetime.  Everyone should do a cheap backpacking trip at one point in their life and hostels are the backbone of these trips.

Kayak is a good hotel comparison site as it will scrape hotel listings from multiple sites like Expedia, Agoda, Booking.com etc. This provides you with a good overview of a particular city’s offerings and then you can drill down and see where the deals are for a specific hotel or area. The more you search the better deal you will find.

Agoda is an online booking site primarily for hotels. While it offers access to properties all around the world, it seems to really shineA in the Asian Market where you can find some really great hotel deals. Like any travel booking site it is best to check out multiple sites to make sure it is really a deal.

Sometimes you need your home to have wheels and when you do, Outdoorsy has you covered.  Known as the AirBnb for campervans, motorhomes and Rv’s, this site gives you access to private rentals across North America and Europe. Check them out and plan your next great roadtrip.

One of the largest hotel booking sites in the world. Booking.com offers a wide selection of accommodation and is always a good place to check when searching in a new city. Its platform is very easy to use and offers additional travel services like cars, flights and experiences.

VRBO walked so AirBnb could run. Founded 12 years before Airbnb, it has been connecting travellers with private rentals for nearly 30 years. You will find that there is a great deal of crossover between the two companies but pricing can be different, so always a good idea to check both.

Don’t be afraid to use a local website for accommodation, often times you will find hidden gems on local websites that are not advertised by the bigger hotel search engines. We had great luck with some vacation rentals in New Zealand using local companies and they ended up being some of our favourites from the trip.
