The best months to visit Guatemala are January, February, March, April, November and December. In general, the warm months are February, March, April, May, July and August. The wettest months are May, June, August and September.
Catagory “A” countries do not require Visa’s and can stay for 90 days. Category “B & C ” require visas to be applied for before arrival.
That is a difficult question to answer and heavily depends on one’s risk tolerance. If you check your home countries travel advisories then you will probably see a warning issued with a high level of risk noted for Guatemala.
